Experienced hikers can walk the route over 3 to 4 weeks.  The route is broken into 22 stages each of approximately 14 miles with rises of up to 1000 feet.  Route maps are available from various sources, but most notably Cicerone, and Ordinance Survey.   The latter has an excellent guide here - authored by Nia Lloyd Knott of who went out on the trail with with Olie Notts of Ramblers.org.uk who also provides his own account here
